Netflix’s Altered Carbon gets a trailer and release date

UPDATED: New trailer tells the story of Netflix’s “Altered Carbon”

I had the pleasure of working with James Purefoy earlier this year to promote AMC’s “Hap & Leonard”. Whilst chatting all thing H&P, he was also telling us about the show he was currently filming, “Altered Carbon”, which sounded right up my street. I’ve been eagerly waiting for a trailer ever since and today it has arrived. Entertainment Weekly had an exclusive along with some images.

Based on a book of the same name by Richard Morgan, “Altered Carbon” is set in the future where the rich are able to take their consciousness and implant into a new body so they can live forever. According to the trailer, death is simply an ‘inconvenience’.

Here is the new trailer starring James Purefoy:

Synopsis

Here’s a bit more blurb according to the IMDB description: “Altered Carbon” is set in the future where consciousness is digitized and stored in cortical stacks impacted in the spine, allowing humans to survive physical death by having their memories and consciousness ‘re-sleeved’ into new bodies. The story follows specially trained “Envoy” soldier Takeshi Kovacs, who is downloaded from an off-world prison and into the body of a disgraced cop at the behest of Larens Bancroft, a highly influential aristocrat. Bancroft was killed, and the last automatic backup of his stack was made hours before his death, leaving him with no memory of who killed him and why. While police ruled it a suicide, Bancroft is convinced he was murdered and wants Kovacs to find out the truth.

James Purefoy plays Laurens Bancroft. The trailer features Joel Kinnaman (Robocop, The Killing) who plays Takeshi Kovacs.

“Altered Carbon” streams from 2nd February 2018.

With Altered Carbon and Blade Runner 2049, cyberpunk is truly making a comeback. Roll on more I say!
