Six reasons why you should be watching The Walking Dead

With the newest season of The Walking Dead well underway and proving just as suspenseful and dramatic as before, if you aren’t watching this incredible show yet, the real question is why on earth not? And with Now TV offering a free 14 day trial and the S1-6 box set available on demand you definitely have no excuse.

Here at Sci-Fi Drama Queen we are avid TWD fans, being familiar with the show and the comics the show was inspired by, and just to help you out we’ve pulled together six reasons why the sixth season of TWD should be at the top of your weekly “to watch” list.

1. Unforgettable characters

If you expect the show to mainly involve zombies you’ll be sorely mistaken, and in the best kind of way. The Walking Dead has some of the greatest and most superb character arc’s you will find in a series. From awe inspiring women such as Carol and Michonne to people you just can’t help fall in love with such as Carl and Hershel.

2. Romance

Yes, you read it right, a show named after zombies (although that term is never used) has romance in it too and a romance you’re guaranteed to fall head over heels with. While there are a few romantic character arcs, Maggie and Glen are the two that pop into any TWD fan’s mind at the mention of the word. Cute and awkward the pair soon draw you in to their often tense and heartbreaking love story.

3. Rick Grimes

Yes, he deserves to be a reason to watch this show all on his own. If you’ve seen TWD, you won’t question it, if you haven’t – then you need to watch it simply to see Rick in action. The series shows him grow from a Sheriff to a certified zombie killer, leading his group and trying to keep them safe while also juggling being a father to children growing up in this world and a husband. You won’t be able to resist always rooting for Rick.

4. Gore

Unsurprisingly a show about zombies has gore, lots and lots of gore, but it just adds to the tense atmosphere and constant threat that the group face. Besides, who doesn’t love to see a zombie in full effect? Especially with special effects this good.

5. Villains you’ll love to hate

While you might expect the biggest threat to come from the walking dead themselves, the show is very rich for villains that make the zombie’s look like potential party guests. TWD doesn’t hold back on making villains that are just pure evil, and the mention of “The Govenor” is bound to make any fan’s blood boil. The newest season is just getting set to introduce the next big villain, Negan, who is likely to be the worst we’ve met so far.

6. Stomach churning plot twists

Characters aside, a major reason that keeps TWD so engaging and addictive is the fantastic writing. Plot twists and cliff hangers are a large part of this show and it isn’t uncommon to be left on the edge of your seat as the credits roll or, even worse, the series ends.

So here is Sci Fi Drama Queen’s six reasons why you should be watching The Walking Dead, and if you give it a try you are bound to find your own.
