With the Oscar’s having taken place just days ago, thoughts are already moving on the 2017 event and of course, aside from the nominees, one of the most important roles of the event is the host. This year the torch was given to Chris Rock, who did a brilliant job, but already people are curious over who is going to be receiving the hosting honor in 2017. Their is a undeniable pressure on whoever is picked to be the sometimes thankless role of being host, but Chris Rock did an overall great job, with just the right mix of controversial jokes and safer topics to keep the night flowing with plenty of laughs. From making jokes introducing the event as the “White People’s Choice Awards” to keeping up a witty, self depreciating commentary throughout the night he undeniably will be a host to remember.
With the Oscar’s being such a long running event, it is of no surprise that the hosting has had a varied mix of people fulfilling the role of host, each with varying degrees of success. As mentioned by CNN one of the most popular hosts that comes to mind is the notoriously loved Ellen DeGeneres, who is often picketed as one of the all time favourites. She has hosted the awards twice (in 2007 and 2014), however the most recent 2014 event is undoubtedly the most successful where she managed to take the most retweeted picture of all time.
However, not all of the hosts have had DeGeneres’s raging success, in 2011 the Oscar’s had Anne Hathaway and James Franco host the awards in an attempt to draw in a younger audience. Hathaway and Franco just didn’t quite mix well together and ended up making the each other looking over the top – Hathaway in an annoyingly overenthusiastic manner and Franco in just a severe lack of interest.
There have already been some pretty solid predictions made for the next Oscar’s by Sports Betting Dime and there is no surprise in some of the names being suggested, such as the aforementioned Ellen DeGeneres. But along with this prediction is others such as Kevin Hart, Jimmy Kimmel and Tina Fey and Amy Poehler. Any of these hosts would be sure to be great hosts, and their undeniable success as comedians would almost guarantee that a good number of laughs would be had from the 2017 Oscars. However, you have to wonder if the Oscar’s would ever consider going down a different route and perhaps picking a host not necessarily known for their comedic background but just with a natural gift for making others laugh. A name that pops to mind here is Justin Timberlake, who has been a very popular host on Saturday Night Live with Jimmy Fallon and has really shown just how naturally witty and quick he can be. A host like this might just give a different twist that the Oscar’s have been looking for, as well as drawing in the younger crowd that they have been trying to entice lately.
