Game of Thrones A Telltale Games Series – Xbox One review
|Whether you are a fan of the books or the TV show (or both), it’s safe to say that the world of Game of Thrones is a bleak and often cruel place, and Telltale certainly don’t hold back in its take on the series either. With Game of Thrones A Telltale Games Series, Telltale keeps its usual episodic format with the first series of Game of Thrones consisting of 6 episodes with around 2 hours of decision making dialogue and action for the viewer to enjoy. You quickly come to learn, in the first episode alone, that making the noble and morally correct decision is almost guaranteed to lead to downfall for the Forresters, the story’s main protagonists.
While the story is mainly set around minor families that we are not introduced to in the books or TV show, these characters will quickly worm their way into your hearts and you’ll find each decision you make get harder and harder as you worry about the fate of the Forrester family who face the consequences of your decisions. With an interactive storyline like this it allows you to control the way the game plays for the characters and each blow makes you feel responsible for any bad luck that comes their way.
However, Telltale do still invite our book and show favourites such as Tyrion, Jon Snow and Daenerys to appear in the game and manage to balance the level of familiar characters and new ones perfectly. There is just enough to draw you in and make you recognise the world of A Song of Ice and Fire without having plot breaking decisions to take you out from the immersion the game creates.
Game of Thrones A Telltale Games Series is available now on Xbox One, Xbox 360 PS4 and PC. Prices vary depending on the console.
