Time to go Ultra HD

So I recently invested in a 4K TV. I decided my cheap HD TV wasn’t good enough, especially when you have a love of film and TV like me. I was debating what to get, 3D HD TV or a 4K Ultra HD TV, which was pretty much the same price as the 3D TVs. The staff at Currys PC World chatted me through both TVs, but said whilst there isn’t much Ultra HD content out the right now, when it comes this TV will be impressive.

They said 4K is so good you don’t need 3D. And boy where they right. Home I went with my LG 40 inch 4K TV and I tested out a few YouTube 4K videos. It felt like I was looking through a window, the colours are so vivid and the depth is incredible. It feels more real than watching something in 3D.

But watching some wildlife footage from YouTube was not going to cut it. The lovely peeps at Netflix kindly upgraded my account to put their 4K to the test. Some people have said there isn’t enough there for it to be worth the upgrade (at £8.99) but I disagree. There is plenty there to watch, plus all of the new shows are launching in Ultra HD. So what can you watch? Well, there aren’t many places that are listing it, so here is what you can watch at the moment (as of 13 September 2015)

  • Better Call Saul
  • Bloodline
  • Breaking Bad
  • Chef’s Table
  • Daredevil
  • Grace and Frankie
  • House of Cards
  • Marco Polo
  • Narcos
  • Sense 8
  • Video Game: High School
  • Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp
  • What Happened. Miss Simone?

So as you can see, there is plenty to watch. I’ve just made my way through Wet Hot American Summer (review to come) and am slowly working my way through Sense 8 (again review to come) and Breaking Bad (yes late to the game, don’t judge me). Soon the 4K movies will follow, the US has some already. Amazon Prime Instant Video has them, but all to buy individually, rather than part of your monthly subscription.

So if you have just invested in a new 4K TV I recommend taking Netflix Ultra HD for a spin. If you are still looking for a 4K TV and don’t want to invest too much money, then this is the model I have and it’s pretty rocking!
