Pitch Perfect 2 is just as funny as the first

Pitch Perfec

Yep, I said it, Pitch Perfect 2 is funny. Often a sequel is a disappointment, like Anchorman 2, it often doesn’t make you laugh as much, the storyline is either a repeat of what happened in a slightly different senario, like The Hangover Part II, and you often build it up to be something it will never be, like the Star Wars prequels.

This sequel, might not quite be a classic like its predecessor, but the Bellas are back and the songs I think are better than ever. The jokes are good, Rebel Wilson, aka Fat Amy I think is even funnier this time round, note the opening scene where the Obamas get a little more than they bargained for.

So what is it all about this time round? Well, the Bellas are at the top of their game, they were the first all female group to win the National championships and not only that but are three time champions. They get to perform for the president, but after their performance goes wrong and they are the talk of the nation’s news, they are no longer allowed to compete in the national championships, so set their sites on the world championships, where they go head to head with the current champions Das Sound Machine. Fans of the Treble Makers need fear not, as the guys still make a couple of performances in the film, shame they don’t get to sing a bit more too.

Beca (played by Anna Kendrick), has enjoyed her time leading the Bellas, but is still trying to make it as a producer, and with an internship with a producer, she seems one step closer to her dream career as her time at university and with the Bellas is about to come to an end.

The performances are commentated on again by Gail (Elizabeth Banks, who also directed this movie) and John (John Michael Higgins). Gail, like the first time isn’t that funny, I’m not the biggest Elizabeth Banks fan, but I am impressed with her feature film directorial debut). John however is funnier and more sexist than ever. Although a few of his racist jokes are perhaps taking it slightly too far.

If you loved the first film, or are looking for some hilarious entertainment then this is the film for you.
