I missed Dancing on the Edge when it was on TV, but stumbled across it online. I don’t know how I missed it as it’s a period drama so it has my name written all over it.
The show follows a music journalist in 1930s London. He discovers a black jazz band and helps them on their way to stardom. From performing for the rich and famous and hanging out with royalty they almost have it all until a murder throws the band into turmoil.
Dancing on the Edge stars Oscar nominee Chiwetel Ejiofor (12 Years a Slave), John Goodman (The Monuments Men), Anthony Head (Buffy the Vampire Slayer), Angel Coulby (Merlin) and Matthew Goode (Watchmen).
It was a really good series. More like a series of movies than a TV series, so don’t expect to be able to watch the episodes back to back. Despite this being a murder story don’t expect it to be a mystery. There seems to be lots of questions at the start, but then everything you are thinking is actually right. But that aside, the show is really good. A great cast, beautiful costumes, hair and make-up and incredible jazz.

BBC period drama
A bit slow in places, but a really interesting period piece
