More and more singletons (especially those in cities) are turning to internet dating. I say I am using internet dating websites to help my quest to find ‘the one’, but really I can’t remember the last time I logged on online. The reason? Because I use the apps. So you could say I’ve moved on from internet dating to app dating (I think appy dating has a better ring to it).
What I like about the apps is the fact that you can get your messages on the go, no risk of logging in on your work computer, but you can also find people local to you. Many apps have a ‘meet me’ facility where you look at the profile picture and decide if you are interest or not. Tinder is one that focuses completely on this element, being referred to as the straight version of Grindr. OK Cupid and Plenty of Fish also have this tool, but restrict what you can see of their profile, so you are essentially just judging a book by its cover.
I was asked to review Hot or Not, which does exactly what it says on the tin. You connect to your Facebook account (don’t worry you can select not to post to your Facebook wall) and then you can select pictures to add to your profile. The app also shows you your connections, a little bit like Tinder where you can see friends that you share, Hot or Not shows you how you are connected, more like LinkedIn.
The essence of the app is to look through the profiles and say yes or no to each person. Your vote for them counts to their overall score – although I don’t necessarily think this counts because I believe everyone is perfect for someone, so whilst someone might think you are hot another might not.
But it isn’t just their picture you base your vote on. You have a detailed profile. What is really nice about this is that you can pick your interests from a list. So for example, your favourite music you can just scroll through a long list and tick all the bands that you like. Same for food, movies, sport, travel, etc. This app makes it really simple to create a profile and help you find people that you have things in common with.
From what I’ve seen from this app so far I’m liking this app. So if you are looking for a new way to meet people I’d say it’s worth checking this one out. Head to www.tryhotornot.com to download the app. Also, as the app is new there is currently a $1,000 sweepstake happening to encourage new users just like the Facebook page and enter here.
Disclosure: I was asked to review this app and after using it felt it was worth sharing with my readers. I was not instructed on what to say in my review. Views are my own.
