The Wolverine Blu-Ray review and giveaway
|Last week I was invited to an exclusive screening of the extended version of The Wolverine ahead of the DVD and Blu-Ray release. I missed the film at the cinema, so was delighted to get a chance to see it on a big screen. The screening was held at the Hospital Club in Covent Garden and we were served (in keeping with the film theme) sushi and Japanese beer.
I’ve always been a fan of the X-Men films, I think their popularity with cinema-goers highlighted to the studios that the world was interested in seeing adaptations of comic books on the big screen. Not just avid comic book readers, but the wider audience. If it wasn’t for their success I don’t think we’d be having as many comic-book related blockbuster releases as we are now.
Wolverine is by far the best character from the X-Men team and I really enjoyed his origins film. The setting for this outing was perfect. In a way it was a completely new film, but had one character that we all know and love to pull us in. The best bit about the film though is at the end credits. In true Marvel style we get to see a set up to the next X-Men film – Days of Future Past. Make sure you watch to the end for this.
I also got to see a few of the DVD extras, including an an alternative ending, which I actually thought was better. In the film we see Yukio get on a plane with Logan carrying a case, but we never see what is in it. In the alternative we actually see what is inside and I think the comic-book, or even the TV animation series fan will be pleased. There was also a behind the scenes video of Bryan Singer on the set of Days of Future Past, which is really cool to see what the infamous X-Men set looks like.
And, it gets better. This week you will also be able to download a Wolverine second screen app where you will be able to enjoy added extras. You will be able to enjoy commentary on the film and also interact between your phone and the screen. More details on this and a link to download will be revealed shortly.
