This week is the week to be having afternoon tea and all for a good cause. This Friday people will be hosting afternoon tea events to raise money for Dreams Come True, a charity which makes wishes come true for terminally ill children. Their event to help is called Dream Tea. I am unable to hold my Dream Tea party on Friday so I hosted mine this Saturday.
We had ham and mustard sandwiches, egg mayonnaise, cucumber and cream cheese and salmon cucumber and cream cheese for our sandwich selection. We also had cucumber canapés with a cream cheese and salmon topping and stuffed mini sweet peppers with cous cous, sweet chilli and cream cheese filling – I was making the most of the cream cheese tub! There was also cheese and crackers.
For our sweets we had an amazing coffee walnut cake (not created by me but a friend), red velvet cupcakes and whoppie pies, homemade scones with clotted cream and strawberry jam and oreo chocolate brownies. Not that I’m bragging about the brownies, but there were none left over at the end of the party as everyone took them home. I used this BBC Good Food recipe, but added 50g of chopped almonds and also mixed in six broken up oreo cookies, plus extra for decorating the top of the brownie mix.
We washed it all down with tea and a lot of Prosecco.
Thanks to all of my lovely friends for coming and helping me to raise £80 for such a worthy cause.
Dream Tea events are taking place across the country on 21 June, I’m holding mine a few days early at the weekend, but there is still time for you to get involved. For more information visit http://dreamscometrue.uk.com/dreamtea
