Harry Potter might be long gone, but I have a feeling that wizards are going to be more popular than ever, in fact the greatest ever, if ever there was, the Wizard of Oz. Disney has released a new trailer for Oz the Great and Powerful (check it out below) and we can soon expect a film version of the broadway hit Wicked.
Disney’s adaptation of the classic tale is directed by Sam Raimi and focuses on the wizard himself, played by James Franco. This story is pre-Wizard of Oz, following the origins of the wizard – Oscar Diggs who is a small-time circus magician with dubious ethics, who is hurled away from Kansas to the vibrant Land of Oz. He thinks he has it easy until he meets three witches, Theodora (played by Mila Kunis), Evanora (played by Rachel Weisz) and Glinda (played by Michelle Williams) who are not convinced he is the great wizard everyone thinks he is.
Oz the Great and Powerful is in UK and US cinemas on 8 March 2013. Wicked is still in pre-production stages and expected sometime in 2014.
