To all my American readers you are in for a treat when Mr Selfridge starts in March. The show which aired here in the UK last night achieved an incredible seven million viewers. Might not sound at great to you lot as a country with a LOT of people, but the only shows that get anywhere close to that kind of number over here are X Factor, Britain’s Got Talent…and not forgetting Downton Abbey (the latter does secure over nine million). So, not bad for its first outing.
The show stars Entourage’s Jeremy Piven as the man himself. An American who decided to be brave and bold and open a new department store on London’s Oxford Street….but at the dead end. He hired staff before he even built the shop and demanded a new style is product displays and customer service. Little did he know that it would become the store in which the rest of Oxford Street centres itself around.
The opening episode was a great introduction and left us with a few drama that we know we want to find out more about. I can say that I will be tuning in each week and this will fill my Downton slot while I wait for season four.
