Viggo Mortensen to play General Zod?

That’s the rumour spreading the net at the moment. Zack Snyder announced that General Zod would be the villian for the Man of Steel Superman adaptation that is currently in pre-production and rumours are already flying around as to who will play the Kryptonian villian. General Zod, like Superman is from Krypton. We saw Zod in the first two Superman movies starring Christopher Reeve where Zod was played by British actor Terrence Stamp (who also voices Jor-El in Smallville). In the first Superman movie Zod was sent away by Jor-El (Marlon Brando) and didn’t make a full appearance until the sequel where he sought to take over Earth.

Viggo is top of that list to play General Zod in Superman: Man of Steel, but do you think he will be a good Zod, and will he stand up to Terrence Stamp (Superman I & II) and Callum Blue’s (Smallville) Zod?

Superman: Man of Steel is yet to get a release date, but is expected in late 2012.
